Why Newborn Photography?
The first few days after baby is born go by so quickly. Adjusting to having a new baby in the house and keeping everything in order takes up a lot of your time and before you know it your baby is already 2 months old. Photographing your precious baby in these first 2 weeks gives you the opportunity to savor their tininess as well as their beautiful “fresh” look.
When to book?
You can contact me to book your newborn any time during your pregnancy. I will book a date around your due date for the session to take place. You just need to keep me on your call list for when baby is born in order for us to move the session accordingly. Bookings can only be made once your booking forms have been completed and sent back to me along with your 50% retainer fee.
When should the shoot take place?
The newborn shoot should take place within the first 14 days after baby is born. Babies that are this young enjoy being wrapped up and can easily be posed into the cute squishy poses without them being uncomfortable since they just come out of your belly where its really tight. Also after 2 weeks baby acne can kick in. Even though I do retouch my final images excessive baby acne can sometimes be hard to remove completely. This being said, I know that sometimes it’s not always possible to get baby into the studio in this time window and I have photographed many older newborns before too. Some poses just might not be achieved but we will still without a doubt capture beautiful images of your little one.
How long does the session take?
Ideally we should be done in about 2 – 4 hours depending on baby. Even though this does sound like a lot of time, it goes by really fast as we allow time for nursing and setting up new poses and props.
When will I get my final images?
After each session I will always post a “sneak peek” of your session in a day or 2. Edits will then take 2-4 weeks to complete. You will then receive an online gallery with all of the images that will be on your disk whereby you will be able to choose your prints for your final package.
When booking a newborn session you do not have to worry about any props or clothing. I supply all of this. You are more than welcome to let me know if you have any colour schemes in mind and I will prepare some setups prior to the session. All of my props are in the studio for you to have a look at and if you feel that you would like any of them to be used during your session you are welcome to let me know. If you have any personal items that you would like incorporated into the images you are more than welcome to do this as well. Just let me know before hand in order for me to prepare accordingly.
With newborn sessions my studio is kept nice and warm to ensure that baby is comfortable. Sometimes the heat gets a little much for us grown ups so ensure that you dress comfortably to deal with the heat. I do offer bottled water during my sessions, however you are more than welcome to bring along a snack as you will be here for quite a while. Bringing along a book or anything to keep you busy is more than welcome. Alternatively, pull up a seat and watch me and baby make magic!
Your brand new cherub’s safety is the most important thing when coming into my studio. If at any time baby looks uncomfortable whilst doing a certain pose, this pose will be stopped immediately. I will never force baby into any position that he or she is not comfortable in nor will i put baby in any sort of danger to acheve any image. No image is more important than the safety of your precious baby.
